Nutrisyong Sapat, Para sa Lahat: Paving the Way for Progress in Miagao and the Province of Iloilo

In a collaborative effort, the Miagao Local Government Unit, in partnership with the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, Brgy. Igtuba, and the 61st Infantry “Hunter” Battalion, organized a vital nutrition initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable groups within the municipality. This initiative aligns with the National Nutrition Council’s Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). Identified vulnerable groups included daycare center students, teenagers, nutritionally at-risk pregnant women, and the elderly.
A comprehensive series of educational nutrition lectures was conducted, featuring topics such as “Pinging Pinoy” tailored for various demographics, mandatory food fortification, oral health care, and salt iodization. The program provided an array of nutrition services and essential commodities, including:
– Dietary supplements for children
– Iron-fortified rice dietary supplementation for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women
– Weekly Iron Folic Acid (WIFA) distribution for female teenagers
– Prenatal vitamin distributions
– Micronutrient Powder (MNP) provision
– Multivitamin supplementation for both children and adults
– Maintenance medications for the elderly
– Iodized salt distribution
– Pneumonia vaccinations
– Oral hygiene kits
– Free medical and dental services, including complimentary haircuts from the Philippine Army
This nutrition initiative marks a significant stride toward fostering holistic well-being and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a healthier, more nourished community.
