TESDA opens training to Miagaowanons

MIAGAO, Iloilo – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in tandem with the Local Government Unit of Miagao, offers Free Technical Vocational Education and Training to qualified Miagaowanon applicants.

The training will be for the following Occupational Area: Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC 1, Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II, Glass Metal Arc Welding NC 1, Glass Metal Arc Welding NC II, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding NC II, Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, Masonry NC II, Carpentry NC II, Construction Painting NC II, RAC Servicing NC II.

As qualification, PESO Manager John Nocal said that the applicant must be a high school graduate or college level under graduate, must possess any NC III in any qualification, preferably 18 years old and above, physically fit and willing to undergo training.

Once qualified, the applicants may avail of free training, free assessment, P5,000.00 book allowance, P8,000.00 tools and P160/day living allowance. (ABMande)

119 students aspire as MACS scholars

MIAGAO, Iloilo – Some 119 incoming first year college students from various secondary high schools in the Municipality of Miagao hope to become scholars under the Miagao Assistance to College Students (MACS) Program of the Municipality.

On June 15th, the 119 aspirants took the qualifying entrance examination at the Iloilo Science and Technology University where they will be enrolled to various courses.  Of the number, 100 students will be admitted as new grantees for School Year 2019-2010.

MACS Program is a full scholarship grant to tertiary education to poor but deserving and qualified high schools Miagaowanon graduates.  It was implemented after the enactment of Ordinance No. 2013-40, “An Ordinance Establishing a Scholarship Fund for the Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) Program and Prescribing Qualifications and Selection Guidelines for Scholars Thereof.”

Hon. Macario Napulan in his message said that literacy and education is among his priority programs as he hopes for the Miagaowanon human resources to become globally competitive.  He also hopes to produce at least one graduate to every economically disadvantage Miagaowanon family and provide opportunities to poor but talented and promising students to carry out their academic pursuits.

Aside from the written examination, the applicants will undergo other screenings to include interview and orientation seminar.  Once admitted, the grantees will enjoy free payment to matriculation and other miscellaneous expenses.  They are also given monthly stipend in the amount of P600.00 to P800.00 depending upon the distance of the grantee’s residence to the school.

Now on its 6th year, the Program has produced 245 graduates from 2015 to 2019. (ABMande)

 

PWUDS get aftercare management from MSWDO

MIAGAO, Iloilo – Some 52 Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUDS) graduates of Community Base Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) from the Municipality of Miagao are now subject to the Moral Recovery and Retreat, an Aftercare Transformation and Integration Program spearheaded by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) at Garin Farm Pilgrimage Resort in San Joaquin town on June 14-16, 2019.

The 2-days and 3-nights activity aims to transform the identified drug dependents into community leaders that can be mobilized in times of natural disasters.

MSWDO Rosalinda Mueda said that the activity includes lectures of credible speakers in the like of Fr. Warlito Namo and personnel from the WVSU-MC.  Fr. Namo will talk about Marital Enhancement and how to become effective parent while the personnel from WVSU MC will talk on Anger and Stress Management.

Mrs. Mueda likewise explained that of the 103 PWUDS in Miagao, 87 were assessed and on the Addiction Severity Index.  Of the number, however, 76 successfully graduated from CBRP which was conducted and facilitated by the Municipal Health Office.  Subsequently, they become subject of the abovementioned Aftercare Program.

According to her, the Program is one of the requirements for the PDEA to issue clearance to PWUDS and remove them from the PDEA watch list.   Also, they must have completed four to six sessions of CBR.

Under the Program, the PWUDS are expected to actively participate in the 18 months aftercare activities to include Basic Life Support, Basic Fire Fighting and 12 Steps to Addiction Recovery Sessions among others. (ABMande)

MIAGAO, Iloilo – The Local Chief Executives from the seven municipalities of the First Congressional District pooled their resources together in preparation for the implementation of the Balay Silangan Reformation Center in the Municipality of Miagao.

The establishment was formalized through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement at the Justice Ramon B. Britanico Hall on June 14, 2019.

In his speech, PDEA OIC Alex Tablate said that the Balay Silangan Reformation Center aims to adopt the implementation of a family-based in-house reformation program for drug offenders. In Miagao, it will be located in the town’s Evacuation Center in Barangay Baybay Norte.

The activity, attended by the local chief executives and representatives from the seven municipalities, members of the towns Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Councils, Municipal Health Officers, Municipal Social Welfare Development Officers, representatives of the Civil Society Organizations, Sangguniang Bayan Members, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police and Municipal Local Government Operations Officers, will mark the beginning of a new life for the reformities in Miagao and its neighboring municipalities.

“It is a compassionate way of enforcing the anti-illegal drug law,” said Tablate

In his Welcome Remarks, Mayor Macario N. Napula, MD embraced the development for the Municipality.  It may be noted that Miagao was amongst the first town to have been certified “drug cleared” by the PDEA.

Napulan, a physician by profession, said that the bad effect of illegal drugs is a very important issue to be looked into as he stressed that tokhang alone is not sufficient to address the menace.

“Rehabilitation is a must.  If they (tokhang surrenderers) do not feel acceptance in the community they will eventually go back to their illegal activities.  This Center will hopefully transform them into a good citizen we want them to become in the community,” said Napulan.

Once established, the Balay Silangan in Miagao will house 65 surrenderers from the first district, none of them is from Miagao though.  Miagao, being the host Municipality, will hire personnel to man the facility for the period of one month – the length of stay of the surenderers in the facility.

Meantime, the Balay Silangan will be opened on July 8th.  Prior the opening, the member agencies agreed for the screening of district-wide  surrenderers at the JRBB Hall on June 25th.

Activities inside the Balay Silangan will include orientation and lectures and other necessary assistance from the Department of Trade and Industry and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. (ABMande).

Conference Meeting-June 13, 2019

Photo shows the local government Department Heads identifying development projects that will chargeable against the 2020 20% Development Funds. As such, priority was given to the renovation of the Justice Ramon B. Britanico (JRBB) Hall among others.

Coral and Coastal Clean-up

 

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist worked in tandem with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for the regular coral and coastal clean-up in the municipal waters of Miagao.  The whole day activity was also joined by divers from the Municipalities of Carles and Anilao and students from the University of the Philippines – Visayas.

Mrs. Eden Nequia said that the activity was started on May 31st in celebration of the Month of the Ocean and will be continued as a regular activity for coastal resource management.
