Miagao launches MNC programs

MIAGAO, Iloilo – On time for the culmination of the Nutrition Month, the Municipal Health Office’ Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) spearheaded the launching of series of activities to address malnutrition in the community at the JRBB Hall on August 1, 2019.

The Program entitled “Healthy Miagao; Progressive Miagaowanons Nutrition” launches the “Healthy si Nanay: Healthy si Baby, Para sa Lusog at Talinong Family”, Gulayan sa Paaralan and Gulayan sa Barangay.

Some 50 pregnant women participated in this Program and received an initial subsidy of rice and grocery pack under the “Healthy si Nanay: Healthy si Baby, Para sa Lusog at Talinong Family” Program.

According to Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Dr. Rhea P. Palacios, the Program aims to promote healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition of pregnant women and their children emphasizing on the first 1,000 days of life.

“Chronic malnutrition is evident as the child grows in having poor health conditions and poor mental capacity like poor performance in school,” Dr. Palacios said.

Under the Program, these pregnant women will comply the criteria for eligibility to include the following: at least four prenatal check-up, mother immunization completed, facility based delivery, essential new born screening care provided, exclusive breastfeeding up to 6 months of age, required immunization completed, not listed as one of the malnourished children, fruit and vegetable garden at home, participate in all health programs in the barangays and attendance to mothers class, exclusive breastfeeding and nutrition talks.

“The set of criteria for eligibility will be closely monitored by the midwives and BNS from pregnancy to two years of age,” said Dr. Palacios.

In return, these mothers will receive incentives from the MLGU during the course of the Program.

On the other hand, the Gulayan sa Barangay and Gulayan sa Paaralan will be realized by the barangays and schools. (ABMande)

COMPREHENSIVE SMOKE FREE ORDINANCE SOON

All roads led to the JRBB Hall today for the first public hearing on the proposed Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of the Municipality of Miagao. The hearing was attended by punong barangays, representatives from the academic and business sectors, Barangay Health Workers and other stakeholders.

Once approved, the proposed Ordinance will prohibit smoking in certain places whether enclosed or outdoors and prohibit the purchase and sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products from and to minors, among others.

MACS Scholars vow to become diligent, responsible students

MIAGAO, Iloilo  – The Miagao Assistance to College Students grantees vowed to be diligent and responsible students during the Orientation Program at the JRBB Hall on July 29, 2019.

This, after the 94 MACS Program Grantees for Academic Year 2019- 2010 signed their Undertaking that they will comply for the period that they remain scholars of the Municipality.

As scholars they have to take up regular load required for the semester of the academic year, must not drop or incur failing grades, submit to the Board a certified true copy of grades before the start of the next semester, must maintain good moral character in school and in the community, must not take prohibited drugs or join any organization that espouses violence and other illegal activities and render civic and social activities as determined by the Board.

MACS Program is a full scholarship grant to tertiary education to poor but deserving and qualified high schools Miagaowanon graduates.  It was implemented after the enactment of Ordinance No. 2013-40, “An Ordinance Establishing a Scholarship Fund for the Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) Program and Prescribing Qualifications and Selection Guidelines for Scholars Thereof.”

Hon. Macario Napulan in his message said that “literacy and education is among his priority programs as he hopes for the Miagaowanon human resources to become globally competitive.  He also hopes to produce at least one graduate to every economically disadvantage Miagaowanon family and provide opportunities to poor but talented and promising students to carry out their academic pursuits.

The applicants undergone series of qualifying activities to include written examination, and interview.  These grantees will enjoy free payment to matriculation and other miscellaneous expenses.  They are also given monthly stipend in the amount of P600.00 to P800.00 depending upon the distance of the grantee’s residence to the school.

Now on its 6th year, the Program has produced 245 graduates from 2015 to 2019. (ABMande)

 

Miagao readies for SGLG National validation

Municipal Government Department Heads and employees are seeing to it that this time the Municipality of Miagao will successfully make in the National validation of the Seal of Good Local Governance Award in August 2019.

This year, the SGLG carries on with the “all-in” assessment criteria where the local government must pass all seven areas to include: Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace and Order Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Management and Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

SGLG is an annual search initiated by the DILG.  It is the department’s response to the clamor of the people for integrity and performance in public service.  Thus, the SGLG symbolizes integrity and good governance of local government.

Miagao Action on Cleanliness Program

A total of 231 kilograms of low density plastics were collected in Barangays Narat-an, San Rafael, Lanutan, Oyungan, Tabunacan, Bacauan, Guibongan and Kirayan Norte during the launching of the Miagao Action on Cleanliness Program, Saturday.   Under the Program “Basura Mo, Pagkaon Mo’’, five kilograms of LDP may be exchanged to one kilogram of rice, two cans of sardines and one bar of soap.
