MIAGAO, Iloilo, Sept. 27 — The local government unit (LGU) of Miagao is now releasing the allowances of Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) grantees.

Ms. Rhodora Napud, Municipal, Consultant on Education said that the 165 MACS grantees will receive the amount of P2,000.00 as payment for their transportation allowance for the months of August and September this year.

The release, facilitated by the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, is scheduled on a monthly basis provided that they have submitted their registration form as proof of enrollment and validated identification card.

MACS Program is a full scholarship grant to tertiary education to poor but deserving and qualified high schools Miagaowanon graduates.

It was implemented after the enactment of Ordinance No. 2013-40, “An Ordinance Establishing a Scholarship Fund for the Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) Program and Prescribing Qualifications and Selection Guidelines for Scholars Thereof.”

The program was established to provide a hybrid local scholarship program – partly need-based and partly merit-based, by giving opportunity to poor but deserving high schools graduates who are residents of the municipality to access college education.

It also aims to promote learning, enrich knowledge of students, improve human resources and eventually advance their quality of life.

The LGU has allotted funds for payment of matriculation and other miscellaneous fees of the grantees.

The program is in collaboration with the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) (formerly Southern Iloilo polytechnic College – Western Visayas College of Science and Technology) as the main partner institution.

In June, the applicants underwent series of qualifying activities to include written examination and interview.

Now on its 6th year, the program has produced 245 graduates from 2015-2019. (AG/Information Office)

 

Miagao LGU boosts documentation, writing skills of IOs

MIAGAO, Iloilo — Designated information officers (IOS) from the different departments of the local government unit (LGU) of Miagao participated in the two-day training workshop on Documentation, Journalism and Technical Writing, held at the Jack & Cel Event Center on September 26-27, 2019.

The Training Workshop was initiated by the Office of the Municipal Mayor- Information Office, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office-6 under the leadership of Mr. Jaime S. Cabag, Jr as OIC Regional Head.

The training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of IOs in documentation, technical writing, journalism, and administrative communication.

At the end of the training, the activity hopes to enable the LGU IOs to be able to disseminate information to the public about the current events, projects and developments of the municipality.

Aside from Cabag, the other speakers were former PIA-6 regional director Atty. Janet Mesa, PIA-6 regional training officer Leonard Pineda I, PIA-6 regional social media focal Carlson Alelis, and Engr. Ray Adrian Macalalag from the DPWH.

The training modules included the Roles and Functions of IOs, Administrative Communication, Basic Documentation, News and Feature Writing, Effective Use of Social Media and Photojournalism.

Cabag said that he is impressed with the initiative of the MLGU for conducting the training.

“This is the first time that the municipal government requested us to conduct a workshop on Documentation and Technical Writing” he said.

On one hand, Miagao Municipal Mayor Macario Napulan, MD said he aims to involve all offices since communication is very vital for the development of LGU, hence this training.

“I want others to get involve with communication. With this training, I am confident that we will have direction and guidance on information in the years to come”, he said. (JMS/Information Office)

MIAGAO, Iloilo – The municipality of Miagao is now set for the province wide launching of the Real Property Tax Amnesty Program 2019.

As active partner in this initiative, Ms. Ninfa M. Momblan, Acting Municipal Treasurer urged the 119 Punong  Barangays  to help support the municipality, through the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, in its drive to effectively disseminate and promote the Tax Amnesty Program to their constituents especially the delinquent real property taxpayers who wish to avail of the amnesty.

“With this program, the municipality is eyeing a boost in the collection of real property taxes by the end of year 2019,” she said.

The Provincial Government of Iloilo through Provincial Ordinance No. 2019-198 effected this year’s granting of tax relief to delinquent real property taxpayers in the province, with respect to penalties and interests until December 31, 2019.

It can be recalled that the Province of Iloilo implemented the Real Property Tax Amnesty Program in the year 2014.

As the launching was done by district, the municipality of Miagao hosted the First District of Iloilo Congressional Launching on January 14, 2014 at the Justice Ramon B. Britanico Hall, Miagao, Iloilo.

MIAGAO, Iloilo — The  Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office here is now prepared for the assessment of documents as qualifier for the search for National Child Friendly Local Government Audit of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).                

The local government unit (LGU) has been a consistent candidate for the search and has been declared winner for three consecutive years, from 2015-2017.

In line with the implementation of his 10-Point Agenda, municipal mayor Dr. Macario N. Napulan has expressed his support in developing plans and programs for the welfare of the children in the municipality.

The local chief executive is soliciting support and cooperation of all stakeholders for the success in the delivery of the basic support services benefitting the children.

The LGU will be evaluated using the Performance Indicators set by DILG in the various areas of governance – Health, Social Services, Fund Utilization, and Education. (MFP/Information Office)

Miagao bans pork imports

MIAGAO, Iloilo – With the onset of cases of African Swine Virus (ASF) in the Philippines, the Municipality of Miagao bans importation of domestics and wild pigs and their products from places outside the Municipality.

This was the order specifically addressed the hog raisers and other stakeholders during the Hog Raising Seminar and ASF awareness campaign at the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) Conference Room on September 25, 2019.

Mr. Albert Narte said that in cases when it cannot be avoided, they may purchase pigs provided that there should be an issued Animal Health Certificate from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) or licensed veterinarian. Free test of pigs may be availed from the OMA.

Mr. Narte explained that ASF is a highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease to domestic and wild pig of all ages characterized by high fever, loss of appetite, reddening of the skin and hemorrhages of the internal organs, and death which follows between 2 to 10 days on the average with a mortality rate of as high as 100%.

Further he explained that pigs usually become infected by contact with infected pigs or by ingestion of kitchen waste or garbage containing uncooked or undercooked infected pig meat or pig meat products.

“Do not feed any untreated kitchen waste to your pigs and do not allow your pigs to get access to any waste or garbage,” Mr. Narte told the hog raisers (ABMande)

Task Force demolishes illegal structure

MIAGAO, Iloilo – The members of the Municipal Anti-Illegal Structures and Constructions Committee (MAISCC) and Municipal Task Force on Road Clearing are now on the phase of demolition of all identified obstruction and illegal construction in all the major roads of the municipality.

On September 24, 2019, they effect the demolition of the old barangay hall that sits at the sidewalk of Barangay Baybay Sur, this Municipality.

The operation came after the inventory of all roads and structure on September 13, 2019.  During the inventory operation, they surveyed all roads and areas to be cleared and recommended for its demolition.  The demolition is in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through DILG MC 2019-121 on road clearing and immediate removal of illegal structures and construction with warrants

Among the road obstructions that will be removed are illegally parked vehicles, illegal vendors, street dwellers, public and barangay structures and outposts, store encroachments, shanties and house encroachments, garbage dumps, rice grain drying stations, among others.

Earlier on, Mayor Napulan ordered for the transfer of all market vendors occupying Octaviano and Netura Streets to the Municipal Food Terminal which form part of the compliance of the said DILG MC.

Given the most number of barangays at 119, Mayor Napulan through a Memorandum Order also tapped the Barangay in the strict implementation of the Order. (ABMande)
