Brgy. Bacolod

Brief History

Before Spanish time, Barangay Bacolod was only the Sitio of Barangay Igpandan, houses of the people were located in the lower part of the hill. But when years passed, thieves became rampant and very destructive. They used to destroy houses by throwing big stones. Fearing that these thieves will attack them again people decided to transfer and built their houses on top of the hill and this was named “Bacolod” meaning buklod.

Since this place is on the top of the hill, Barangay Bacolod is the first stricken by the sunrays in the morning. This is surrounded by bamboos and other big tress even though this barangay is on the upper part. People have their own land to cultivate and different crops to harvest for their own living. As years passed, the barangay became populated, primary school was built and later became an elementary school as population grows. This school became the center of eight barangays.

Barangay Bacolod gradually became progressive. Barangay road was constructed by the Engineering Battalion, headed by 2nd Lt. Jose Magpantay in 1976. Then followed by the water system in the same year, which is a great help for the barangay folks, then in 1978 health center was also built. Three years after electricity reached this place and more projects were put up, like barangay market, barangay hall and the newly constructed health center and the multi-purpose pavement. Lately, the barangay high school was constructed and opened in 1996. These projects were accomplished through the support of the Sangguniang Barangay and the people of this place.
