The Municipality has a total land area of 15,722.04 hectares. The poblacion, composed of eight (8) barangays, has an area of 299.54 hectares and the remaining 111 barangays has a total area of 15,422.50.
Miagao, a brief History
Miagao became an independent Municipality in 1716. It used to be a part or arrabal of four (4) different towns. Record shows that before Miagao became a town, it was an arrabal of Oton until 1580; of Tigbauan until 1952; of Suaraga or Suaragan (now San Joaquin) until 1703; and of Guimbal until 1716 when it became an independent town. To further instill relevant life skills, the Local Government Unit of Miagao, under the administration of Hon. Engr. Oscar “Richard” S. Garin, Jr., Municipal Mayor, has established guidelines for providing Basic Life Support training for the Miagao Tour Guides’ Organization, Chief Tanods, and Barangay Tourism Council Focal Persons. Life support training is a vital life skill that equips both guides and tourists with the knowledge to deal with medical emergencies. Prompt and appropriate first aid can save a life, and empowering our children with this basic skill could mean more lives can be saved in times of emergency or disaster. Under this training, LGU Miagao includes programs developed by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, headed by Engr. Franco Carlo M. Monteclaro, and the Bureau of Fire Protection, along with the Office of the Municipal Tourism Officer, headed by Mrs. Mary Diane N. Flordeliza, MGDH I, Tourism Officer. The training carries evidence-based guidelines for emergency cardiovascular care and psychomotor training to support age-appropriate instruction.
