Unbeknownst to many, the Office of the Municipal Tourism Officer headed by Mrs. Mary Diane N. Flordeliza, MGDH I/ Tourism Officer with the support from Hon. Marlou R. Niones, SB Member-In-Charge on Tourism, has been holding marketing enhancement workshops with stakeholders from various communities across the Municipality anchored on one of the visions of Hon. Engr. Oscar “Richard” S. Garin, Jr., Municipal Mayor’s sustainable programs for Hablon.
Just before the many activities of Paskwa sa Miagao 2024, the most recent Hablon Product Development Activity, “From Loom to Fashion: A Collaborative Workshop on Hablon Products” was held at the Justice Ramon B. Britanico Hall on 5 and 6 December 2024. Weavers, tailors and the LGBTQIA+ community gathered for a two-day workshop.
The goal of the varied topics covered was to educate locals of this community stakeholders on how to increase the visibility of their work, which in turn would help them make more money while preserving their craft.
A technical assistance was led by Prof. Rolly John F. Pelobello, faculty member of Bachelor of Industrial Technology, teaching fashion and apparel technology from the Iloilo Science and Technology University, Miagao Campus, along with Resource Persons/ Technical Experts Mrs. Constancia “Connie” F. Atijon, Master Weaver and Mrs. Jamie Anne V. Sermonia, Senior Business Counsellor 1, Negosyo Center Miagao.
Our participants were granted prime space to exhibit their masterpieces which were then ajudged by former Sangguniang Bayan Member and currently the President of Miagao Salakayan, Inc., Mrs. Luningning S. Tuparan that resulted to the success of their workshop.
