The Municipal Health Office is urging the public to avail themselves of the mass drug administration (MDA) against lymphatic filariasis in the month of September 2010.
Dr. Jessel Cometa-Gellada, Municipal Health Officer said they will administer the drugs albendazole and diethyl carbamizine for the month long MDA. The MDA kicked off on October 4, 2010 with a ceremonial administration of vaccine against the dreaded disease.
Lymphatic filariasis is a severely debilitating and stigmatizing disease caused by microscopic, thread-like worms being transmitted by female mosquitoes.
These worms lodge in the lymphatic system-the network of nodes and vessels that maintain the fluid balance between the tissues and blood-which is an essential
