An additional six barangays have been designated as beneficiaries of the Lawa at Binhi program, initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The selected barangays include Alimodias, Caitib, Oyaoy, Calagtangan, Igpandan, and Baraclayan.
This program is designed to provide cash assistance to farmers and fisherfolk, with a primary focus on improving water sufficiency and enhancing food security within the community.
In an interview with former DSWD Regional Director Atty. Carmelo Nochete, he outlined several interventions aimed at promoting water sufficiency. These measures include the construction of small farm reservoirs, repairs to existing water harvesting facilities, diversification of water supply sources, and numerous other supportive initiatives.
Additionally, the program addresses food security through a range of interventions such as communal vegetable gardening, community-based integrated diversified farming, vermicomposting, and various other support activities.
Beneficiaries will participate in these initiatives for a duration of 20 days, during which they will receive compensation at a rate corresponding to the regional minimum wage.
