Brief History
Aguiauan’s former name was San Sebastian. It was named after Capitan Sebastian Fausa (1857-1858) who founded the place. Until 1889, it was an important barrio with a stone church built by Fray Angel Abasulo, parish priest.
The name Aguiauan derived from the dialect word gin-agihan, which means “has been passed.” During the Filipino-American War, Filipino insurgent used to pass this place in coming down from the mountain headquarters in Barrio Igcabugao, Igbaras.
Aguiauan also have local tourist attraction where the people visit during Holy week for the purposes of collecting medical herbs and oil and for nature tripping.
Barangay Aguiauan produces bamboo mats called sawali, sadok, salakot and grain containers called tabungos and malindog.
The now Aguiauan was one developing barangay in the entire municipality because of its surroundings which contribute to the development of it.
In addition to this, the sawali business still exist and helped for the people of our barangay to survive. Some of the residents went abroad to uplift the economic living of the community.
Objectives
- Reconstruct the water system to flow in full to satisfies the needs of the barangay.
- Look for a dumping site for the solid waste.
- Continue the canalization program.
- Poor condition of the railway going to the hill top.
- Construction of tanod outpost.
Strategies/Proposed Priority Projects
- Identify the major problem of the barangay water system.
- Conduct tree planting activities on watershed areas.
- Established strong coordination with DENR and other agencies in the protection of water shed and forestry areas.
- Strict implementation of measures to protect the water source.
- Form and strengthen farmers cooperative and association for livelihood programs.
- Enhance the capability of recipient through skills training on sawali making.
- Monitor progress of implemented program.
- Coordinate with Department of Agriculture on how to do progressive farming, cattle raising, hog raising poultry.
- Conduct training on good farming and other business training.
- Identify the dumping site.
- Educate people on the importance of waste management.
- Convince the people to cooperate the canalization project.
- Look for alternative source of materials for the completion of the canalization project.
